Model page, ductless single-zone

LG Art Cool Premier RED

LG’s coldest-heating wall units, sold under the Art Cool Premier name with LGRED heat. This page also carries the comparison most quotes leave out: LG’s own spec sheet stops this line at -13F, while the Mitsubishi and Fujitsu lines we have checked keep going below it.

The unit and the cold numbers

100%

Of rated heating capacity kept at 5F, from LG’s engineering manual

70-73%

Of rated heating capacity kept at -13F, depending on unit size

LGRED is LG’s low-temperature heating technology, and the Art Cool Premier wall units are its single-zone carriers. A typical quote pairs an LAU120HYV3 outdoor unit with an LAN120HYV3 indoor unit — 12,000 BTU/h nominal, rated 13,600 BTU/h of heating. LG’s spec sheet marks every unit in this series “Cold Climate: Yes” on the ENERGY STAR row.

100%

5F

A mild fall day — of rated heating capacity, verified for the 9,000, 12,000 and 18,000 BTU/h sizes in LG’s engineering manual.

70-73%

-13F

The worst nights of a northern winter — and this line’s operating floor — of rated heating capacity, depending on unit size.

The marketing claim of 100% at 5F holds for the 9,000, 12,000 and 18,000 BTU/h sizes. The 24,000 BTU/h size keeps 91% at 5F, so we print the exception rather than repeat the marketing. And one line matters more here than any percentage: -13F is where LG’s spec sheet says the heating range stops. Below -13F this line is not rated to run at all, while the Mitsubishi H2i+ we checked keeps 70-81% of its capacity at -13F and its current generation is rated to operate to -22F, and the Fujitsu XLTH is rated to operate at -15F. On the nights colder than -13F, those lines are still running and this one is not. That comparison is exactly what this guide exists to make, so we say it plainly.

What the states pay for it

A rebate never attaches to a model name alone — it attaches to a unit on a program’s list, installed to the program’s rules. Here is every program we checked, what it pays, and honestly where this model’s qualification is confirmed and where it is not.

$1,000 to $3,000 per outdoor unit

Rebate program open; unit list status unverified

Maine — Efficiency Maine, whole-home rebate (the rebate your quote may simply call the Efficiency Maine heat pump rebate)

Efficiency Maine pays its per-unit rebate only for single-zone heat pumps, and the Art Cool Premier wall units are single-zone — the exact shape the program pays for. The amount is $1,000 per outdoor unit at any income, $2,000 moderate income, $3,000 low income, with lifetime caps of $3,000 to $9,000 per home. The unit must be on Efficiency Maine’s rebate-eligible list, which would not open when we checked, so confirmation rests on program rules, not the list itself. Your installer still uses this unit’s heating numbers when sizing the system, but here the rebate and the sizing point the same way.

The full Maine rules — income tiers, lifetime caps and the December deadlines behind this money — are on our Maine rebate page.

LG’s multi-zone “Multi F” version of this line is not single-zone, so it earns the same answer the Fujitsu page shows: $0 from Efficiency Maine.

$2,000

Rebate program open; this model’s ratings clear the published bar

Minnesota — Xcel Energy, cold-climate mini-split

This is the strongest Minnesota row we can print so far. Xcel’s $2,000 rebate for a cold-climate mini-split requires 16.0 SEER2, 9.0 EER2 and 9.5 HSPF2 with a Quality Installation, for Combo or natural-gas customers ($1,500 electric-only). LG’s own engineering sheet shows 25.5 SEER2, at least 13.0 EER2 and 11.2 HSPF2 for the 12,000 BTU/h unit — above all three bars on paper. The unit also carries the ENERGY STAR cold-climate mark Minnesota’s new HEAR rebate requires. The installer still has to confirm final qualification with a Quality Installation.

$375 or $475 instant discount

Open at participating distributors; unit list status unverified

Vermont — Efficiency Vermont, ductless heat pump

An instant discount at participating distributors: the money comes off the invoice before you pay, so there is no check and nothing to file — if your quote does not show the discount, ask why. It pays $375 for a system of two tons or less (a ton is 12,000 BTU/h of cooling), $475 above two tons. Another $600 comes back if your installation includes integrated controls — the system’s own control hardware, not a standard thermostat — so ask your installer whether the quote includes that hardware before you count the $600. Equipment must be on Efficiency Vermont’s qualifying list, which we could not open when we checked. That list decides the money, so before you sign, have your installer confirm your exact model number is on the current list.

The full Vermont rules — the income bonuses of $200 to $2,200, Green Mountain Power’s separate rebate and Burlington’s own schedule — are on our Vermont rebate page.

In Burlington, this row does not apply: Efficiency Vermont’s discounts skip the city, and Burlington Electric pays its own, bigger schedule — $2,100 or $2,500 for a ductless mini-split, plus income top-ups.

Its NEEP row

The NEEP cold-climate list standardizes capacity and COP at 5F for every listed unit — the fairest comparison between brands. The list is an interactive application that resisted our checks, and LG publishes no NEEP affiliation we could find; the closest marker is the spec sheet’s “Cold Climate: Yes” row quoted above.

The state equipment lists

Efficiency Maine’s rebate-eligible list file and Efficiency Vermont’s qualifying-products list both resisted our checks on our date, so per-model confirmation rests on program rules, not the lists themselves. For Vermont, that confirmation is worth getting in writing before you sign.

The Multi F submittal

LG’s multi-zone Multi F and Multi F MAX lines share the LGRED technology, but we could not pull their submittal documents, so this page covers only the single-zone Art Cool Premier units whose engineering manual we read.
