Heat pump rebate by state

Start with the state where the heat pump will be installed. Then check the company on your electric bill and the exact equipment pairing.

These guides cover six states, not the whole country. An unlisted state does not mean there are no rebates.

Choose your installation state

Each guide names its sources, program conditions and evidence gaps. Check dates below describe the retained program research, not a fresh confirmation today.

  • Colorado rebate guide

Utility and regional programs, plus the state heat pump tax credit and its separate rules.

  • Maine rebate guide

Efficiency Maine programs, single-zone and ducted equipment rules, and separate utility rate information.

Do not count the former federal credit

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, known as 25C, ended for improvements after December 31, 2025.

A heat pump installed in 2026 does not earn that credit. State, utility and local incentives have separate rules.

What to check before accepting a quote

Write down both outdoor and indoor model numbers. Rebates usually apply to a listed pairing, not every product carrying the same series name.

Ask your installer for the qualifying-list entry and required certification. Published efficiency ratings alone do not prove your equipment qualifies.

Confirm the installation date, contractor requirements, income rules and any reservation needed before work begins. A program described as open may still limit funding.

Do not add every advertised amount together. Some incentives exclude each other, reduce the eligible cost or apply only through participating contractors.

A ZIP can help find a mailing state, but it cannot establish your electric utility or approve your project.

Put the equipment beside the rebate evidence

Use Compare to put documented cold-weather figures beside state evidence. Missing performance or qualifying-list data stays explicitly unverified.

For example, the Mitsubishi H2i+ model page separates equipment-list evidence from conditional project eligibility. An equipment match is not a promise of payment.
